MILOS Builds Bespoke structure for Pacific Games
Czech Republic based aluminium trussing specialist MILOS designed and constructed a bespoke structure to house an audio system for the 14th Pacific Games (NC 2011) , held in Nouméa, New Caledonia.
The event attracted 4300 athletes from 22 competing countries covering 28 different sports.
The structure was designed and commissioned by locally based company Auditechnic, who have also recently become the MILOS distributor for the Oceania region.
It was positioned in front of the main grandstand in the middle of the main stadium and PA and lighting equipment was attached to it.
It was the first MILOS structure in the region, with the requirements being were that it was light weight and strong. MILOS products were selected as the company is one of the leading – and largest - trussing manufacturers and because of the reputation as a premium brand.
Measuring 11.2 metres high and 11.6 metres at the widest point, it was made up from a mixture of MILOS standard products including QuickTruss QTLU 3000, 2000, 1000 and 500 and a special 120 degree version of QLLU 42, QLLU 30 and QTLU 21, together with six custom base plates, each of which accommodates two legs.
It was based on two six legged hexagonal shaped structures, one inside the other at different heights, with several cross brace sections and overhang arms which allowed the speakers to be positioned exactly where they were needed to cover the grandstand area.
It was supplied with an additional ballasting system to take account of cross-winds and other environmental factors.
The project was managed for MILOS by Michal Zykán who worked closely with Laurént Pechowiak from Auditechnic.
The main challenges were - once the green light was received - to meet the deadline for producing a completely new and bespoke design in time to ship everything to New Caledonia. Once on site, it was erected by five MILOS crew in an impressive two hours.
